Singapore’s 15th reservoir, Marina Barrage is the first one built in the heart of the city. It is the largest and most urbanized catchment, with a catchment area of 10,000 hectares. Marina Reservoir was commissioned by the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew as a freshwater reservoir to increase water supply for Singapore. It is a part of a comprehensive flood control scheme and a great attraction for recreational activities. Above all, Marina Barrage showcases Singapore’s commitment in environmental sustainability.
The Green Roof of Marina Barrage is a large rooftop garden. It uses 100% recycled plastics and eco-friendly drainage cells. The grass and soil of the garden create protect the building from the sun. In addition, Marina Barrage boasts one of the largest collections of solar panels in Singapore – Solar Park. With 405 panels, Solar Park supplements electricity for lightings in the gallery and offices during daytime. Each year, it produces 76,000kW, which equals the monthly consumption of about 180 average households.
